About Us

We are a group of individuals with an interest in preserving the history of William Carey and maintaining detailed family tree records of as many descendants as possible.

The Carey Family Network (CFN) began as the Carey Family Association (CFA) which was founded with aims to provide a forum for the exchange of information on historical details relevant to Dr William Carey, the first Baptist missionary to go to India, and maintain the family tree of his descendants. It also offered support to Serampore College in India

The original CFA came out of a meeting where 4 descendants of William Carey met at Charing Cross Hotel to share their family histories and trees. Those people were Kay Carey, Rosalind Mead, Yvonne Gladwell and Sally Edwards.

Kay and Rosalind’s families descend from William’s 5th and youngest son, Jonathan; Yvonne and Sally’s through his 4th son, Jabez. Trees were pored over, family stories exchanged and the decision was made that this meeting should be taken further with intentions to have a wider family reunion and to share information with other Carey descendants.

From this meeting CFA developed with an active Committee comprising Michael and Kay Carey (Jonathan), Mike Comber (Jonathan), Jeremy Taylor (Eustace), David Allen (Eustace), Ruth Wrigley (Jonathan), Richard Carey (Jabez), Barry Eliades ((Eustace) and Sally Edwards (Jabez).

In later years Shally Hunt (Felix) joined the Committee.

The first Family Gathering was held April 17th, 1993 at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church in London.
